YMCA Nationals Recap
Brian Aberle, Faith Hefner, Sam Melnyk, Emmaline Peterson, Marinela Procopii, Maly Shores, Marissa Taylor, Maria Turcanu, and Emma Weisgerber represtented YSST at the 2014 YMCA Long Course National Championships in Indianapolis, IN from July 28th through August 1st.
It was a great week for YSST. Day one - Emmaline finishes 5th in the 1500 Free. Her previous best finish at Y Nats was 8th. Day two - Best times from Sam (100 Fly), Maria (400 Free-16th), and Emmaline (400 Free-14th and a new Open team record). Day three - Best times for Faith (400 IM), Emmaline (400 IM - 21st), Maly (200 Free - earning a spot on the 800 Free Relay), Maria (200 Free), and Brian (200 Free). Day four - Best times by Marinela (100 Breast), Faith (50 Fly), Sam (50 Fly), Maria (200 Free leading off the relay), Marissa (100 Free), Sam (100 Free), Brian (100 Free), and the Women's 800 Free Relay of Maria, Emmaline, Marinela, and Maly finishes 16th!! Day five - Best times for Marinela (100 Free), Faith (200 Fly), Sam (200 Fly - 23rd WITH A 7 SECOND DROP), Marissa (200 IM), and the meet ended for YSST with a 5th place finish by Emmaline in the 800 Free (New Open team record).
Congrats to all for not only their accomplishments in Indiana, but also their achievements from the entire long course season and seasons that led to their success. Swimming is a great sport that provides tons of lifetime lessons. One of those is facing obstacles and hurdles in the constant pursuit of excellence. We are proud of ALL of you.
