From the meet host -
Thank you for entering the 2024 NC Open Water Championships!
There is a significant amount of information in this email. Please make sure you are familiar with everything and please share with your families. There are a few changes this year in the way things have gone in the past. I am looking forward to seeing everyone at the lake.
1. USA SWIMMING PROHIBITS THE USE OF WET SUITS IN TEMPS ABOVE 20 DEGREE CELSIUS AND THE WATER TEMERATURE DOES NOT MERIT THEM.
2. Swim suit rules---women may wear 2 pieces, as long as they are not tie back and do have sports bra/triathlon type tops in line w/ FINA decency requirements.
3. Nails--Real and Fake nails that go over the required length will result in a NO SWIM! Nail length will be inspected at check-in. NO swimmer will be able to compete if their fingernails are not deemed legal by the referee at check-in. No white should be visible to conform to open water rules.
4. Directions and Parking for Races:
All parking for races will be at the soccer field near the venue. Signs for parking will be posted. Please follow the signs to the appropriate parking area. The entrance to Seven Lakes North is located on Seven Lakes Drive, just past Seven Lakes Fire and Rescue. This year officials and coaches will be parking at the far end of the dam. There will be signs and directions at the guard house. Please follow all posted speed limits and please park only in designated areas. Last year we had people parking in yards and not respecting the community, this hurts our ability to use this venue. The address for general parking is 114 Edgewater Drive. Once you enter past the guard house, please follow signs and not your GPS.
Two Different parking passes are attached – Coaches/Officials at the end of the dam and spectator/participant in the field by the community center.
5. RACE Markings Please write your number on:
*Both arms = (vertical down the upper arm)
*Both shoulders (back of shoulders)
*Both hands (on the back of hands)
Please use a sharpie and write clearly. Please write your numbers before applying sunscreen. Competitor numbers and waves can be found in this spreadsheet. This will help to do numbering in advance of arrival at the lake. How the waves will work for each race is listed below the order of events.
6. CHIPS:
*Chips should be tight but not cutting off circulation of your leg / foot.
*Chips should be on the OUTSIDE of the ankle
*Chip straps can be duct taped (BUT NOT THE ACTUAL DEVICE)
*Swimmer SHOULD NOT stand in the grass areas or behind FS Series computers.
**chips will be read by the computers as a member of the race.
*Do not cut / remove chip until you are done with racing.
7. SPECTATORS:
*Must stay on the dam and out of the ‘grassy’ area near the arch (entry / exit).
*Spectators gathering in this area will be asked to move, repeated offenses, will result in dismissal of spectator from the venue.
8. Volunteers are needed to help make this event a successful opportunity for the swimmers. New Wave Swim Team has agreed to be the host for this event so that it could happen, but we do not have as many people available to help as a local team would. Here is a link to sign up genius if you are willing to help make this a great event for the swimmers; https://www.signupgenius.com/go/8050B4FADA92B0-49861064-2024
9. Every athlete will get a ticket for a t-shirt, and those on Saturday will get a ticket for a Chicken Sandwich from the caterer.
10. Vendors will be at the lake for T-shirts and food along with Jolyn swimsuits.
11. Hospitality for coaches will be on the dock.
