Sava Turcanu represented North Carolina at the 2009 Southern Zone Age Group Championships in Orlando, FL the week of July 27, 2009. Sava finished 1st in the 100 Fly and 1500 Free, 2nd in the 200 Fly, 4th in the 400 IM, and 6th in the 200 and 400 Free. North Carolina finished third at the meet behind Florida and Southeastern. Graham Williams represented YSST at the 2009 Speedo Junior National Championships in Federal Way, WA the week of August 10th. Graham posted best times in all the freestyle events. He set 3 new team records in the 400, 800, and 1500 freestlyle. He also qualified for the USA Swimming SC Senior Nationals in the 800 and 1500 Free.
Graham Williams attended the NCS 2009 Long Course Senior Championships in Charlotte, NC on 7/23-26/09. This was Graham's final prep meet prior to the USA Swimming Junior National Championships to be held in Federal Way, Washington the week of August 10th. He set a new team record in the 400 meter freestyle. Results are posted on the Meet Schedule page. The team records have also been updated.
The 2009 North Carolina Swimming Long Course 14 & Under Championships were held July 16-19, 2009 in Cary, NC. Congratulations to Sophia Cherkez, Lauren Ferner, Ian Petty, Marinela Procopii, Cory Spencer, Marissa Taylor, Maria Turcanu, Sava Turcanu, Michael Vezmar, and Emma Weisgerber for a successful meet. Sava Turcanu led the way with 5 State titles, 7 Team records, and 1 Meet record. Top 16 finishes were as follows. Results from the 2009 Upper Southeast Regional YMCA Championships have been posted on the Meet Schedule page. The Long Course Team records have also been updated. Two team records were set at the meet this weekend. Ross Dant set a new standard in the 8 & under boys 100 backstroke, and Sava Turcanu set a new standard in the 13/14 boys 200 IM.
YSST had 44 swimmers compete at the YWNC Hula Invitational this past weekend in Asheville. The meet results are posted on the Meet Schedule page. The team had 18 swimmers complete the pentathlon portion of the meet.
